Limit Access Points

Roadways that serve higher volumes of regional through-traffic need more access control to preserve their traffic function. Zoning for nodal development, which is development in concentrated centers with small blocks, short connections between uses, and multiples paths to get there, strengthens this access management technique. Nodal development serves to prevent the scattered sprawl often created by linear development, where many facilities are stretched along a single roadway. Incentives for development must focus on nodal patterns, or the preservation of open space between nodes, thereby limiting the number of access points along a roadway.

The map below shows a proposed transportation plan focused on nodal development.
